William was born in 1780 in Salisbury, Wiltshire and his christening took place on June 8th, 1780 in Saint Thomas, Salisbury, Wiltshire.1 2   William's father was John Naish and his mother was Sarah Banger.  His maternal grandparents were William Banger and Sarah. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Charles, John, Reuben, Sarah, Henrietta, Phoebe, Elizabeth and Leonora.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
