Olive was born in 1819 in Sherbourne Saint John, Hampshire and her christening took place there on August 1st, 1819.1 2   Olive's father was Joseph Matthews and her mother was Ann Dicker. She had five brothers and a sister, named Charles, George, William, Joseph, David and Harriett.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
