Alfred's father was Joseph Angel Jewett and his mother was Emma Parker. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Jewett and Mary; his maternal grandparents were Charles Parker and Ellenor Harris. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Joseph, William, John, George, Henry, Emma, Alice, Mary and Harriet. He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.
