Ann was born in 1768 in South Shields, Durham and her christening took place there on April 10th, 1768.1 2   Ann's father was Thomas Hogg and her mother was Ursula Potts.  Her maternal grandparents were Henry Potts and Ursula Hudspeth. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, Thomas, Mary, Ursula, Elizabeth, Thomasine and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
