Sarah was born in 1666 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on September 2nd, 1666 in Thaxted Parish Church, Essex.1 2  Sarah's father was John Hockley and her mother was Isabell Dallyson.  Her paternal grandparents were William Hockley and Mary Badcock. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, William, Edward, William, Daniel, Isabell, Mary, Rebecca and Hannah.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.
