Thomas was born in 1754 in Millbrook, Southampton, Hampshire and his christening took place there on January 7th, 1754.1 2   Thomas' father was Thomas Gannaway and his mother was Mary. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, George, James and Anne.  He was the youngest of the five children.
