Martha was born in 1743 in Laverstock, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on February 10th, 1743.1   Martha's father was Daniel Austence and her mother was Martha Amer.  Her maternal grandparents were John Amer and Mary. She had a brother and three sisters, named Daniel, Ann, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
