Daniel was born in 1739 in Laverstock, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on September 30th, 1739.1 2   Daniel's father was Daniel Austence and his mother was Martha Amer.  His maternal grandparents were John Amer and Mary. He had four sisters named Martha, Ann, Elizabeth and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the five children.
