George was born on March 23rd, 1888 in Blaby, Leicestershire.1  George's father was George JAYES and his mother was Sarah Elizabeth HALLAS. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, Herman, John, Oscar, Mary and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 60 in January 1949 in Nottingham.2
