Alexander was born on October 6th, 1866 in Horton Blyth Northumberland England and his christening took place on October 29th, 1866 in Blyth Northumberland England.  Alexander's father was William Hume Crombie Comb and his mother was Janet McGregor.  His paternal grandparents were Mathew Comb and Mary Crombie; his maternal grandparents were Alexander McGregor and Elizabeth Robertson. He had three brothers and a sister, named Mathew, James, William and Mary.  He was the oldest of the five children.
