Frank was born in 1900 in Rodley Yorkshire and his baptism took place on March 8th, 1931 in St Andrews Rodley Leeds Yorkshire.1 2   Frank's father is Albert Thornton and his mother is Hetty Bateman.  His paternal grandfather was Joseph Whitfield Thornton and his paternal grandmother is Hannah Isles; his maternal grandfather is John Bateman. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Whitfield, Harry, Randolph, Louis and Agnes.
