Edith was born in 1900 in Poplar. Edith's father was Charles (Ship Gen Dealer) Worpole and her mother was Mary Ann E Driscoll. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Worpole (Metal Merchant-Marine Stores) and Ann of Poplar Noel. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Charles, Percy, John, George, Millicent, Grace, Milly and Rose. She was the youngest of the nine children.
