Alice was born in June 1859 in Poplar.1  Alice's father was Joseph Worpole (Metal Merchant-Marine Stores) and her mother was Ann of Poplar Noel.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph (of Billericay) Worpole (Journeyman Brewer) and Jemina (Nurse); her maternal grandfather is Richard - Michael Noel and her maternal grandmother was Ann (Hambeldon nr Portsmouth). She had three brothers and a sister, named John, Charles, Joseph and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
