George was born in 1887 in Old Ford.1   George's father was Joseph Spillman (b Bethnal Green bur MN 51 Rippleside) and his mother was Alice Rebecca Mason (b Shoreditch Bur MN 51 Rippleside).  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Spillman  (Rope Maker) and Hannah Richardson; his maternal grandfather was George Mason (Tobacca Stripper) and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had four brothers and a sister, named Joseph, John, James, William and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
