Hannah was born about 1855 in Chatham Kent.  Hannah's father was Charles Piper (Blacksmith b Maidstone Kent) and her mother was Mary Ann Savin (b Ramsgate Kent).  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Piper (Blacksmith b Maidstone Kent) and Hannah Colvin; her maternal grandparents are Thomas Savin and <Unknown>. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Charles, William, James, Mary and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the six children.
