Jessie was born about 1889 in Grimsby.¹ Jessie's father was Thomas Mothersdill ( Fisherman) and her mother was Emma Sophia Blakeney (b Barking dressmaker). Her maternal grandparents were Charles Blakeney (Fisherman (b Maidstone)) and Sarah Ann Crawley (b Barking). She had three brothers named Thomas, Charles and Albert. She was the second oldest of the four children.
