Eliza was born on April 22nd, 1812 in Barking Essex and her baptism took place on May 24th, 1812 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.  Eliza's father was Charles Richard Dunsdon (Fisherman) and her mother was Martha Bowman.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Dunsdon and Margaret Clough; her maternal grandfather was John Bowman and her maternal grandmother is Sarah. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Thomas, Martha, Mary, Sarah, Sarah and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.

Eliza and Charles were married in a religious ceremony on February 15th, 1831 in All Hallows Stayning.  They had four sons and five daughters, named Charles, John, Henry, Alfred, Eliza, Sophia, Sarah, Ellen and Jane.
