Charlotte was born in 1844 in Barking Essex.  Charlotte's father was James Croney (Fisherman) and her mother was Matilda Ship.  Her paternal grandparents are James Croney and Lucy; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Ship (Blacksmith) and Mary Elizabeth Duffield. She had a brother and four sisters, named Joseph, Mary, Matilda, Ellen and Annie.  She was the third youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 14 in 1858 in Barking Essex.
