Charles was born in 1869 in Plaistow.1   Charles' father was Charles Blakeney (Fisherman (b Maidstone)) and his mother was Sarah Ann Crawley (b Barking).  His paternal grandparents were Charles Warden Blakeney (Fisherman) and Eliza Dunsdon; his maternal grandparents were James Crawley (B Stevenage Herts Fisherman/Dock Lab) and Ann Roberts? (b Aldgate ). He had six sisters named Emma, Sarah, Emma, Kate, Georgina and Jessie.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.

Charles and Ada were married in a religious ceremony in June 1902 in Grimsby.  They had three sons and three daughters, named Joshua, Charles, George, Hilda, Grace and Eva.
