Robert's passport shows his DOB as Jan 1873 ( in 3 US census's Robert lists 3 different dates of birth) a date which fits in nicely between the b. dates for Thomas and Mary Jane's children, David William (1869) and John (1875). Also, a Robert Gordon attended Lislea Nat'l School in 1879 at the age of 6 and that too would fit with his1873 dob.
My ggrandfather's (Robert's) estate was settled in 1920. As a child of Mary Jane Gamble Gordon, it appears this Robert was returning to play a part in that settlement -- what part is a mystery, as Robert's son, Joseph Henry Gordon, apparently inherited the estate.
