From Ballylintagh Presbyterian Church graveyard:
Erected in memory of Robert Anderson, 3rd son of John Boyd who died at the Isle 31 May 1895, aged 24 years.
Also the above named John Boyd, who died at Collins 8th April 1904, aged 73 years.
Also Margaret widow of the said John Boyd who died at Coleraine 17 March 1928 aged 86.
I need to know how this man fits into the rest of the Collins Boyds.
I have found his earlier marriage in 1858 to Martha Williamson, where his address is given as Ballyclough, which fits with his gravestone which is attached to one for Andrew Boyd of Ballyclough.
Further evidence that he was the son of Andrew Boyd of Ballyclough is the gravestone in Aghadowey Presbyterian church which shows that he was still living in Ballyclough when he buried his first wide, Martha, in 1861.
His Civil Record of marriage to Margaret Anderson in 1864 gives him as a widower, teacher, from Crosscandly, son of Andrew Boyd, farmer. William Boyd and John Anderson were witnesses. His wife was from Collins.
I have combined two John Boyds here because both are active in Dromore Seceder church at the same time though one is associated with Collins and the other with Crosscenneally.
John 1. Source: daughter Lizzie's, marriage record in Dromore Seceder Church, where he is described as a teacher of Crosscanealy. Crosscanealy (Glebe) is immediately south of Ballylintagh, which in turn is immediately west of Dromore.
John 2. Source: daughter Martha's, marriage record in Dromore Seceder Church in 1902. May be from Collins as Martha gave that as her residence. In fact, when I viewed her Civil Birth record at Derry FHC, Martha was born in 1877 in Crosscandly. John's other daughter, Elizabeth, was also born at Crosscandly according to her Civil Birth record. This confirms that these two Johns were the same man. I am now fairly certain that he moved to Collins between the births of his children and the marriage of Martha and it is he who is the John Boyd of Collins, 1831-1904, buried at Ballylintagh.
An 1851 Education Commission document shows John Boyd, aged 21, educated at Killeague National School and becoming a teacher at Killure National School.
There was no John Boyd in Collins in the Griffiths Valuation; the only Johns were John Snr and John Jnr in Crosscanley Glebe.
I think this is this John Boyd in the GVRBs acquiring his land from John Boyd Snr, who is not his father unless there ARE two John Boyds here but this one does seem to be the one in the GVRBs as the date of death matches his disappearance from the GVRBs:
Crosscanley
8a + 9 – John Boyd Snr
- John Boyd Snr s/o in 1868/9
- John Boyd Teacher added in 1864
- the land of John Boyd Teacher s/o to Wm James Reid, but John Boyd Teacher keeps the buildings 8a + b, in 1898
- he (John Boyd Teacher) s/o to Wm James Reid in 1903
- he s/o to Thos W Reid in 1922
