James' father was Peter Wood and his mother was Janet Turner.  His maternal grandparents were James Turner and Jane White. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, James and Jean.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 2 on October 3rd, 1847.^2 3
