George's father was Ronald Webster and his mother was Agnes Rogers. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Webster and Margaret Baxter. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Robert, Ronald, Alexander, James, David, John and Margaret. He was the third youngest of the nine children. He died at the age of 73 in 1958 in East Calder.
