George's father was Robert James Thomson and his mother was Mary Russell Turner. His maternal grandparents were William Turner and Jessie Calder. He had a brother and two sisters, named Wilbert, Jeanie, Jenny and Maidie. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died as a war casualty at the age of 28 on March 22nd, 1918 in France. He was buried in France.³⁴
