Catherine's father was John Rennie and her mother was Euphemia McKichan.  Her paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Janet Stronach. She had three brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Archibald, Euphemia and Jenny.  She was the second oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother named Andrew.  She died before 1841.¹
