William's father was Felix Quin and his mother was Annie Young. His paternal grandparents were Felix Quin and Elisabeth McDonald. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Felix, Robert, Hugh, John, Mary and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 91 in 1998 in East Kilbride.
