Mary's father was Felix Quin and her mother was Annie Young. Her paternal grandparents were Felix Quin and Elisabeth McDonald. She had five brothers and a sister, named Felix, Robert, William, Hugh, John and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 93 in 1993 in Saltcoats.
