Annie's father was Charles McDonald Muir and her mother was Mary McAvoy. Her paternal grandparents were William Muir and Mary McDonald. She had three brothers and a sister, named William, Charles, John and Mary. She was the third oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 80 in 1982 in Ayr.
