William's father was Ebenezer Robertson Milner and his mother was Jane Ann Primrose. His paternal grandparents were Ebenezer Milner MD and Robina Culbertson Brash. He had a brother and a sister, named Ebenezer and Lilian. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 53 in May 1934 in London.
