William's father was David McMurran and his mother was Allison McClymont.  His paternal grandparents were Jonathon McMurren and Susan McAllan. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Jonathan, Anne, Susanah and Elisabeth.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died before 1854.
