James was born on February 12th, 1858 in New South Wales. James' father was Andrew Hall McCready and his mother was Janet McLatchie.  His maternal grandparents were Hall McLatchie and Grace Mccallum. He had a brother and four sisters, named Andrew, Grace, Elizabeth, Margaret and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 1 on December 11th, 1859 in New South Wales.
