Grace's father was Andrew Hall McCready and her mother was Janet McLatchie. Her maternal grandparents were Hall McLatchie and Grace Mccallum. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, James, Elizabeth, Margaret and Mary. She was the second oldest of the six children.
