Joseph's father was John Lafferty and his mother was Jane Smith.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Lafferty and Margaret French. He had four brothers and a sister, named Joseph, John, Robert, Malcolm and Jane.  He was the second youngest of the six children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Peter and Margaret.  He died at the age of 43 on April 20th, 1933 in Moose Jaw.  He was buried.
