Elizabeth's father was John Kerr and her mother was Eliza Scoular. Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Kerr and Euphemia Robertson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, Robert, John, Euphemia and Agnes. She was the third youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 6 in 1896 in Loudon.
