Martha's father was Hugh Keggans and her mother was Agnes Robertson. Her maternal grandparents were George Robertson and Martha Carlton McGloughlane. She had seven brothers and six sisters, named George, Hugh, Henry, George, John, William, Hugh, Allison, Alison, Martha, Susannah, Mary and Agnes. She was the seventh youngest of the fourteen children. She died in 1867 in Tarbolton.
