William's father was William John Hamilton and his mother was Euphemia (Phemey) Towers Knox. His maternal grandparents were Walter Knox and Agnes Towers. He had a brother named Walter. He was the older of the two children. He had a half-sister named Margaret. He died as a war casualty at the age of 21 on July 3rd, 1916 in France. He was buried in France.³¹
