George was born in 1860 in Edinburgh.1 George's father was John Cochrane Gibb and his mother was Marion Barclay. His paternal grandparents were George Gibb and Helen Cunningham. He had two brothers and two sisters, named James, John, Lizzie and Helen. He was the oldest of the five children.-
