Margaret's father was John Fraser and her mother was Margaret Dalziel.  Her paternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Isabella Adamson. She had four brothers and a sister, named Alexander, John, William, Robert and Catrine.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
