Alexander's father was John Fraser and his mother was Margaret Dalziel.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Isabella Adamson. He had three brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Robert, Catrine and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
