John's father was John Fisher and his mother was Ellennora Aitken.  His maternal grandparents were James Aitken and Janet Aird. He had nine brothers and three sisters, named James, Matthew, Lawrance, Hugh, William, Robert, Thomas, Matthew, Robert, Agnes, Eleanor and Nelley.  He was the oldest of the thirteen children.
