Eleanor's father was John Fisher and her mother was Ellennora Aitken.  Her maternal grandparents were James Aitken and Janet Aird. She had ten brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Matthew, Lawrance, Hugh, William, Robert, Thomas, Matthew, Robert, Agnes and Nelley.  She was the seventh oldest of the thirteen children.
