Robert's father was Robert Dick and his mother was Margaret Brash.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Dick and Janet Smeal; his maternal grandparents were David Brash and Agnes Henderson. He had a brother named David.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Andrew, Margaret and Janet.  He died at the age of 78 on March 10th, 1922 in Fife.
