Janet's father was Robert Dick and her mother was Agnes Spiers.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Dick and Janet Smeal. She had a brother and a sister, named Andrew and Margaret.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had two half-brothers named Robert and David.  She died at the age of 81 in 1935 in Edinburgh.
