Peter's father was David Dick and his mother was Janet Grant.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Grant and Isabell Marshall. He had two brothers and five sisters, named George, Robert, Isabell, Janet, Jean, Ann and Marion.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
