Mary's father was George Dick and her mother was Margaret Paul.  Her paternal grandparents were David Dick and Janet Grant. She had two brothers and three sisters, named David, George, Margaret, Janet and Eliza.  She was the third youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 42 in 1882 in Uphall.¹
