Janet's father was George Dick and her mother was Margaret Paul.  Her paternal grandparents were David Dick and Janet Grant. She had two brothers and three sisters, named David, George, Margaret, Mary and Eliza.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 67 in 1905 in Uphall.
