Janet's father was Thomas Bone and her mother was Janet Mcgrigor.  Her paternal grandparents were David Bone and Margaret Smith. She had five brothers and two sisters, named David, Thomas, William, Daniel, Thomas, Flora and Margaret.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
