Elspeth's father was David Bone and her mother was Margaret Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were James Bone and Janet Duncan. She had six brothers and a sister, named James, Thomas, David, William, John, Alexander and Margaret.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 57 in 1867 in St. Quivox.
