Thomas was born in 1739 in Somerset Co., New Jersey.  Thomas' father is Thomas Swearingen and his mother is Sarah Morgan.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Van Swearingen and Lydia Jane Riley; his maternal grandparents are Richard Morgan and Jane Taylor. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Van, Andrew, Joseph, Benoni and Drucilla.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 60 in 1799 in Frederick co., MD.
