William Campbell was born in 1794.  William Campbell's father was Gen. Francis Smith Preston and his mother was Sarah Buchanan Campbell.  His paternal grandparents were Col William Preston and Susannah Smith; his maternal grandparents were Gen. William Campbell and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and three sisters, named 15 ch, William Campbell, Susan, Ann Sophonisba and Maria Thornton Carter.
